Project Background

The project is a submission for Microsoft Design Challenge 2022. I chose the Education Theme. We were expected to come up with a digital solution inorder to solve a problem that can create massive positive impact on the target user’s lives. The challenge required solo participation.

Problem Discovery: Education for special needs children in India

The post-covid world saw surge in adoption of digitization in the Education & Learning space.

In this wave of digitization, there is one group of learners whose needs must be catered too - children with special needs.

Only 61% of children with special needs aged 5–19 attended educational institutions of any sort(Census 2011). 75 % of children at the age of 5 years with disabilities do not attend schools in India, according to a 2019 report by UNESCO

<aside> 🔍 Special education is more than just academics. Physiotherapy and health programs are integrated in special education alongside teaching day to day life skills and co-curricular activities to children

<aside> 🔍 Education can impact and better the lives of special needs children greatly. **It’s a myth that they will be over burdened.**Care must be taken that their education is designed according to their needs and ability and proper instructional strategies are applied

<aside> 🔍 Parents involvement in education is pivotal and can boost the child’s performance, as they know their child’s needs the best. Parents training and consultation is integrated in special education programs
